A boat with a broken windscreen in June is a season you are not getting back. That is the argument for calling early rather than at haul-out: the glass is the long pole, not the fitting, and it is a much better problem to solve in April than in the middle of July.

Almost nobody who calls about boat glass knows what the pane is called or who made it. That is fine. Here is how the job actually goes.

Tell us the boat
Make, model, and year if you have them, and a photo of the broken pane and the frame around it. The photo does more work than the model number.

Bring the glass or the frame
Even a cracked pane carries the shape. If the boat can come to the shop, better still. For anything unusual this is the step that saves the most time.

We quote it straight
Once we know what the pane takes, you get a real number and a realistic timeline, including whether it is a quick one or a season-planning one.

We fit it to the opening
Set into the frame with the right gasket or sealant for a boat, so it holds against spray and vibration instead of weeping at the first chop.

Can you get glass for an older boat when the part is discontinued?
Often, yes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming the boat is done. Most boats outlive the company that built them, so a dead part number is the normal starting point for marine glass, not a dead end. Bring the old pane or the frame, or photos of the opening with a tape measure across it, and we will tell you straight what we can do.
How much does boat glass cost?
It depends on the shape more than anything else. A flat side pane is one of the more affordable jobs on a boat. A large curved windscreen, a tinted or laminated piece, or a pane matched to a frame nobody makes anymore all cost more, and size, thickness, and tint each move the number. That is why we do not quote marine glass over the phone without seeing it.
Do I need to bring the whole boat, or just the broken pane?
Either works, and for a lot of jobs the pane or the frame is enough. A cracked piece still carries the shape. If the glass is gone entirely, bring the frame or photos of the opening with a measurement across it. Bringing the boat is best when the frame cannot come off or the fit is unusual.
What kind of glass goes in a boat windshield?
Marine windscreens are normally tempered safety glass, which breaks into blunt pieces rather than shards, in clear, tinted, or smoked to match the rest of the boat. It is not the same as the laminated glass in a car windshield, and it is not acrylic, which scratches and hazes. We will tell you what your boat used and what it takes now.
Can you do curved windscreens, or only flat panes?
Both. Flat and angled panes are the straightforward end of the work. Curved windscreens cost more, and they are exactly the piece most shops send back out the door. Send a photo of the pane and the frame and we will tell you where yours falls.
How long does boat glass take?
Fitting the glass is the quick part. Anything curved, tinted, or discontinued takes longer. In a Michigan season that is the whole argument for calling in April rather than the first warm weekend in July, and we give you a realistic timeline when we quote it.
