What we replace
Marine glass most auto shops won't touch.
Boat glass is a different animal than car glass. The curves are tighter, the shapes are one-off, the glass sits in an aluminum frame instead of a bonded pinch weld, and more often than not the original part number is long dead. That is exactly the work we take, on almost anything that launches out of the Saugatuck and Douglas harbor.

If you have already called around, odds are you have heard "we only do auto." Here is what sets marine glass apart, and why the shops that actually do it are hard to find.
The curve is the hard part
Most boat windshields are bent, not flat, and the bend has to line up with the frame within a hair or it will not seat or seal. Matching curved marine glass is a different skill than setting a flat auto windshield into a bonded opening.
Tempered or laminated
Marine helm glass runs tempered, sometimes laminated, in a specific thickness. We put back the same type and thickness the boat left the factory with, so the replacement carries the same strength as the original.
Frames, not urethane
Boat glass usually rides in an aluminum frame or a rubber channel, not a bonded pinch weld like a car. Getting it back in clean and watertight is its own process, and it is one we run all season.
The part they can't get
If it's discontinued, that's the job we take.
Most shops price a boat windshield off a part number, and when that number comes back dead the conversation is over. We are the shop people land on after that call, which is why an older boat everyone else waved off is a normal job here.

Saugatuck and Douglas run mostly trailerable boats, so the usual route here is simple: hitch up, come down Blue Star, and go home with it done.

Hitch up, it is a 25 minute run
Straight up Blue Star Highway from the Kalamazoo River harbor. Runabouts, bowriders, and pontoons come down on the trailer and go back the same way.

Or just bring the pane
If the windshield or the frame comes off easily, that is less to tow. Either works. Send a photo and the make and model first so the plan is set before you leave.

Saugatuck runs on the water, from the harbor where the Kalamazoo River meets Lake Michigan to the boats coming and going all through a short, busy season. A cracked, crazed, or fogged windshield is the kind of thing that keeps a boat parked on the trailer through the best weeks of summer, so it pays to handle it early instead of at the ramp.
Our shop is at 4270 58th St in Holland, right on Blue Star Highway, and Blue Star is the same road that runs straight down the lakeshore into Saugatuck and Douglas. It is about a 15 to 18 minute drive north. Douglas is right across the river from Saugatuck, tied to it by the hand-cranked chain ferry in summer, so it is the same short trip either way. Pull the glass and bring it in, which is easiest, or bring the boat on the trailer and we will fit it. Either way, call first with the make and model so the plan is ready when you pull up. We are open Mon-Fri 8 to 5.
Questions, answered
Do you replace boat windshields, or just auto glass?
Both. Marine glass is one of the things we do at Glass Enterprise. We handle powerboat and runabout windshields, the wraparound windshields on cabin cruisers and express boats, pontoon and deck-boat panels, and flat side and vent glass, in curved tempered or laminated glass. Tell us the boat and what broke and we will tell you what it takes.
Can you do glass for a discontinued or obsolete boat?
Often, yes, and it is the reason boat owners get sent our way. When the builder is gone or the part is out of production, that is where most shops stop and it is the job we take. Bring us the old glass, or the boat if that is easier, and we will tell you straight what we can do. See specialty glass.
Do you replace curved boat windshields, or only flat glass?
Both. A lot of boat windshields are curved, and getting that bend to match the frame is the hard part of the job. We handle curved windshields along with flat side glass, vents, and console panels.
Is boat glass tempered or laminated, and does it matter?
It matters, and we put back what the boat came with. Marine helm glass is usually tempered safety glass, sometimes laminated, in a set thickness. Matching the type and the thickness is what keeps the new glass as strong as the piece it replaces.
Do you do pontoon and deck-boat panels?
Yes. Helm and console windshields, gate panels, and the enclosure panels that fog or crack after a few seasons in the sun. Bring the panel in and we will tell you straight whether we can do it.
Do you serve Douglas too?
Yes. Douglas sits right across the Kalamazoo River from Saugatuck, so it is the same short trip for us either way. Blue Star Highway runs into both towns, and it is the same road our shop is on. Bring the boat or the old glass in and we will take it from there.
Do I bring the whole boat in, or just the glass?
Either one works. Pulling the old glass or the frame and bringing just that is the easiest way and usually the fastest. If it has to be fit and sealed on the boat, bring it down on the trailer to the shop on Blue Star Highway. Call first so we can plan it.
